ok i have an arguement for the inflation thing, i know the price has went up on stuff like superior vigor runes, and celestial sigils(though i dont understand why on the sigils, since there are more of em every hour)but does anyone remember what even a junky 12-17 dragon sword used to go for???? they were going for like 3000 when i first got through searing, now you are lucky to get 300 for em, and just try selling a minor rune now, i think its great if they make it where less stuff is dropped, maybe i can actually sell something, but cutting people off completely from drops, that is just unfair.

I farm for the sheer fun of item-finding.

In fact, this is one of the reasons I purchased Guild Wars--'cause the way item drops worked was similar to Diablo 2.

I don't farm for the LEETNESS HOMG.

I don't farm to sell to the market; in fact, I hate dealing with the trade channel.

I just like farming for the OOO SHINIES effect.

Have to admit I've been kind of bummed out recently.

As for farming raising prices, farming introduces MORE ITEMS into the market, thereby lessening demand. I actually raised the same argument on Ragnarok and my roomie (I was in the dorms at the time) said "more farmers + more loot = more items being sold = cheaper items."

The whole balancing problem exists only because of pvp. So here is the most obvious solution:
-Splitup the game into stricktly separated pve and pvp sections, meaning that pve chr's cant go into pvp, and cant trade or exchange items with pvp chr.s.
-Limit pvp the same way like its done now: at level 20.
-Allow pve only chr's to progress after level 20. Meaning they will gain health, attribute points, skill points, everything.
-Increase the droprate for pve only chr's since obviously gathering gear is one of the things they like very much

I play 50% PvP and 50% PvE.
I play lots as my wife likes to play.
She plays 100% PvE.
My two friends play 100% PvE
They all like to solo if possible.
They all love item drops.

Current situation is making my friends and wife unhappy.
If they leave then I will leave as everyone I care about is gone.

Making a nerf to stop a few 'bot' people can have a huge knock on effect and kill off what people enjoy about the game.

Pandora's box : Your ideas may be controversial but I like them.

I only have one character so far who has about 70 hours, and the only 'farming' I have done so far was outside of Beacon's Perch. I would run out, kill the one group of Pinesouls and Ice Imps, run back and kill the other group then grab the nearby chest. I did this for almost all of levels 14-17 by myself with hencemen. In all that time, the only pattern of drops I noticed that was I did not get a SINGLE sword in all of those drops. Coincidently, I use a sword as my warrior. Once I tried fighting my way to Droknars from Beacon's, after the first Frost Wurm our group killed dropped a sword. Wasn't reserved for me, but I thought it was the strangest thing.

I completely agree that the prices are out of control. The first gold item I got I sold for 30k, 2 gold items, a purple, a max damage sword, max defense shield, and something else, can't remember what is right now. All of which the guy told me I could sell for an extra 1-3k each. I'm pretty much set for money now, so I've just been selling that other stuff for cheap because I don't need the gold right now. I assume that when I need the 15k armor I will, but until then I'm just going to be salvaging and selling the stuff I'm finding. Unlike in Diablo II, this game is WAY too easy to find something that someone will pay a lot for considering you could walk outside town in a later part of the game, kill something, go to a place earlier in the game, and get a nice sum of money for it.

To stop farming, just make every monster have the same drops. This whole 6th time thing is stupid, and as every says, this game is based more on strategy anyway am I right?

I'm a little peeved by the direction all of this supposed nerfing is supposedly going as well, but according to the post that accompanied the patch, they're not done making changes yet.

They said the first wave of changes would be coming into effect next week sometime. They're pretty clever down there at ANet... why don't we all just wait a week or two to see how this shapes up?

Pure and simple - any MMO with drops (gold/items) that are only availible as drops (ie. you can't buy them at a store) - will have a screwed up economy due to the "infinite gold" in the game world issue.

The only way to make it work is to remove drops (which are a stupid concept anyways). Gold is given as a reward for missions and quests and allow everything to be bought from various merchant types.

Then you will have a stable "economy".

But as no MMO is going to do that they will always have a messed up economy.

Basically they've nerfed farming. How they did it is still a guessing game, but I'm sure it works like this: If you're by your self (soloing) and start killing one type of monster for more than a minute or say 3-5 monsters, every monster stops dropping. Like last night, I killed 9 imps in a row and the next set stopped dropping even other monsters in other parts of the world. This obviously cancels out bots and the point of farming because if nothing drops then you won't farm.
if that's how they resolved the bot issue I feel awful for them....I'd hate to be such an awful programmer that I couldn't figure out a better way to stop AI characters....

what they they need to do is make a weapons merchant like they made a rune merchant...i sell my old uncustomized weapon..someone can coem along and buy said weapon...it easier thanb spamming through the trade channel for hours on end and ending up just vendoring it in the end anyways... and also make the rune/dye/material trader not be global...that way the price would be either higher or lower in certain areas..also add more stuff to the vendors...like a rune that adds more bag space but woul;d cost like 10k, or extra storage space that would cost like 10k ect ect ect. anet is not using there full brain capacity on this at all.... also i like to see something higher than an expert salavage kit, and or a way to stack salavage kits/runes

.. I'm doing Thunderhead Keep for the third time right now. It's the third time because my party has failed to think with its head as opposed to its sword.

So, the third time.

The drops, in short, suck.

The majority are common (gold, collector's items, whites), an occasional blue, an even more occasional purple (two in three runs), and one gold.

That's for the entire party.

There's the error that my count might be off. After all, it's hard to catch every drop.

- edit -

To clarify, each failure has come at least after the clearing of the city, normally during the fight with Dagnar or whatever.

We're on the fourth round now, and I've made it my duty (and informed the part as well) to count blues.

Four so far.

No purples.

No gold.

Everything else common.

People don't seem to realize that this only affects people who are re-entering the same area over and over to fight the same monsters over and over. If you want to farm, you still can. Simply go to different areas and do different things. Stop acting like an automated bot and you wont even notice the effect of this change.

The only problem I see with this is that it might affect someone trying in vain to complete a mission, doing it over and over. I tried to do Frost Gate at least 20 times before I gave up.

as long as you dont kill the same exact monster over and over, it wont affect you. Has anyone tried to like finish a mission, then try the mission again? does it happen? Also, i dont know why you guys are complaining so much, my first drop was a superior vigor, and after that just playing normally i got superior expterise, and inspiration. I am currently on the mission before the last one. btw, drops seem to have been better in missions than in explorable areas.

yup if your not a farmer. you can usually get nice rune drops just killing the monsters in the missions.

(now in finding a good group for missions, now thats a diff matter. )

Hmm. Now I'm worried. I spent the entire day trying to do the 'Villany of Galrath' mission. Literally. I never zoned out once I entered each zone. I killed what I had to kill to get to where I was supposed to be at.... I maintained a 60% DP pretty much the entire time of doing it... and now that I think about it, after about the fifth or sixth monster in those zones, I didn't see drops, either.

But I wasn't farming or even thinking about farming. Actually, I was thinking, 'You know what buster? I don't care if I DO have 60% DP, I'm just going to keep running back from this darn shrine until you're all dead and I can get to the next area!'

I don't think I should be punished for that.
